This event is part of the European Maker Week, an initiative promoted by European Commission and implemented by Maker Faire Rome in collaboration with Startup Europe. It's a celebration of makers and innovators all over Europe.
Mantova in the European Maker Week
The activities promoted by the FabLab Mantova concerning the interaction between maker movement and culture will be compared with the European dynamics during the event “Mantova in the European Maker Week”.
The event is into the project called “Made in Italy – Make in Mantova”, supported by MIUR and presented by the Istituto Superiore Fermi in Mantova, through its newborn FabLab Mantova, and together with the Comune di Mantova, following the National Plan in order to promote Made in Italy Culture. The project recognises cultural heritage as an expression of the Made in Italy and aims to connect this heritage to the Make in Mantova, that is the capability of the territory, and in particular of schools, to produce and reproduce through maker technologies. “Mantova in the European Maker Week” is a leading event not only because it takes place in the “European maker Week” but also because it is in the “Mantova Capitale Italiana della Cultura 2016” program.
The event will last 3 days (May 30th, 31st and June 1st) with focus on the interaction between maker movement and cultural/educational change. For these reasons we want to give participants/students two topics to think about: What does Culture do/mean for maker movement? How can maker spaces/people make for cultural change? The activities will start with a meeting in the morning on May 30th located in IS Fermi (Aula Magna). Thanks to this event, schools, universities, associations and maker spaces will be able to show their projects and spread their network according to the cooperation and collaboration that are characteristics of maker’s world.
Starting from the afternoon the activities will focus on students who will make their stage (work-related learning) into the FabLab Mantova: on May 30th the staff will introduce the programs of June and July, while on May 31st a co-design maker workshop will start in the FabLab and will finish on June 1st. During the workshop, the students will propose their ideas for possible work-related learnings as far as organizational (May 31st) and educational (June 1st) aspects are concerned.
FabLab Mantova is a newborn FabLab in Fermi high school working in partnership among schools, university, public institutions, other FabLabs and Italian maker spaces in order to build a digital operational net and to spread the knowledge of digital technologies applied to Culture.
