Junior Cycle Workshop

The invited Junior Cycle students from local schools get an an opportunity to visit the DIT campus in Grangegorman, Dublin and engage in a practical, college related activity.

This workshop investigates Force, Work, Propulsion, Potential and Kinetic energy and Newton’s Laws of Motion.

Once they have a little theory, in groups of 3, the students must use a range of materials, many of the them recycled like bottle tops and cardboard, to design and produce a working balloon car. All cars must be completed with white labels which the students colour and add to their cars. A competition is then held to determine the car that will travel the furthest.
