Tinkering Activities Workshop for Teachers
Tinkering Activities Workshop for Teachers
Description: Tinkering is an innovative pedagogy pioneered by the Exploratorium of San Francisco that is becoming a worldwide practice. The Tinkering approach to learning is one which supports people to 'think with their hands'. Science Gallery Dublin is delighted to partner with the EU-funded project, Tinkering Europe: Building Science Capital for All to explore the use of Tinkering in school education for the development of Science Capital with a specific focus on teachers and students from disadvantaged communities.

The aim of this workshop is to provide teachers of second-level students with practical tools and innovative ideas to bring tinkering into the classroom and incorporate these activities into their lessons.

More on Tinkering Europe: Building Science Capital for All

Tinkering is proven to hold key benefits for learning, especially for those who say they are "not good at science" or young people with educational or integration difficulties.

This is an EU-funded transnational collaboration project which uses the innovative pedagogy of tinkering to develop the 21st century skills and science capital of disadvantaged youth and improve science education in schools of disadvantaged communities.

Science Capital is what one knows about science, how one thinks, the attitudes towards science, what one does, and who does one know in science as they go through life. It helps understand that science is useful to many roles and fields outside those that directly use it and is important for improving life chances, equity and success of all young people.
